Tyler Shough reveals his wife Jordan’s reaction to rookie being named Saints’ starting QB

New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough was named the team’s starter against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 9. Shough, selected 40th overall in April, comes in as Spencer Rattler will be on the bench after a heavy performance.

Shough was asked Wednesday who he spoke to first to get the green light, and he named his wife, Jordan.

“She was my wife, of course,” Shough said. “She’s been such a big part of this, and obviously, so far from college, every trip, every step of the way, all the way through the selection process. So, it was a good feeling.

“But she’s also a competitor. She played soccer. She told me, ‘Okay, go out there and win.’ She’s not satisfied with anything, neither am I. There’s nothing to get excited about. We have to go out there and win. »

Shough began his college career with the Oregon Ducks from 2018-20, appearing in limited action before transferring to Texas Tech. With the Red Raiders, he suffered injuries, including two broken collarbones and a broken fibula, which disrupted his time as a starter.

He concluded his college career with the Louisville Cardinals in 2024. Shough passed for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns, while completing 62.7% of his throws.

Shough signed a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $10.8 million following his draft selection.

Saints coach Kellen Moore confirms Tyler Shough as starting QB: ‘We’re not looking back’

New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore has made it clear that Tyler Shough will be the team’s starter for the remainder of the 2025 season.

“Tyler starts,” Moore told reporters Wednesday. “We’re not looking back on this. The goal is to let Tyler play and get going.”

Shough completed 17 of 30 passes for 128 yards and an interception in his first start, a 23-3 loss to Tampa Bay last Sunday. Despite the result, Moore expressed confidence in his young quarterback.

“The most important thing is growth,” Moore said. “You can make mistakes and learn from them. Tyler is ready to go.”

Shough echoed his coach’s mindset.

“It was a good feeling, but we have a lot of work to do,” Shough said. “We have to score points and win.”

The Saints are 1-7 and continue their rebuilding phase under Moore’s leadership.
