Beyond the gates There may be a small development coming soon involving young Hayley Lawson (Marketa Goings), or whatever that con woman’s real name is, who is hatching a plot to kill her husband. I’m just wondering if pregnant Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne (Ariel Prepetit) might accidentally blow her stepmother’s murder plot wide open.
I want to talk about how Hayley might be exposed for planning the murder with her cousin Randy Parker (Maurice P. Curry).
Beyond the Gates: Hayley the con artist
Well, let’s talk about it. I’ve said several times here, and I know some of you in the comments tend to agree, that I thought Hailey was running a very long con. I said a while ago that I thought she made her way into the family of Danny Dupree (Karla Mosley) and Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) with the intent of breaking them up and causing problems.
However, I wondered if Hayley had infiltrated the family to tear it apart in order to get revenge on Bill, because we know he has no morals or scruples. I was wondering if he had done something bad to someone in Hayley’s family, but no, there was nothing interesting after that conversation with Randy. Hayley only works for Benjamin’s family.
Haley’s long con exposed: a plot for profit, not revenge
She and Randy were running cons. Hayley was the main person, but Randy was helping her out. I will say that seems like a big problem in this case with Bill. It took Hayley over a year to get there, get close to the family, assault Bill, get him to leave Danny, and finally marry her. It was a huge effort over a long period, and it was only by chance that he decided to take out $10 million worth of life insurance. This is not a well thought out trick, and it took a long time. Hayley likely had three or four other cons in the same time period.
Even Randy commented to Haley that this was taking too long – the whole Bill mess. Not only that, but how can you run cons like this repeatedly in your own backyard? She had driver’s licenses and passports, but she was sitting where she came from, it seemed. Hayley was talking about other identities and all that. Meanwhile, Randy is her cousin. Just to remind you, he was good friends with the recently deceased Doug McBride (Jason Graham), and they’ve been that way since they were school kids, at least in high school. But if I remember the dialogue, even before high school.
Questioning the Conspiracy : Plot holes in Haley and Randy’s scheme
Since he is so close to Randy, are we to assume that Doug has never met his cousin Hayley or whatever her name is? Since Doug grew up in the DMV, that means Randy did too. Presumably, Hayley did too. I feel like this is a huge, major plot error unless they point it out to us and explain it. Maybe Randy and Hailey are distant cousins and didn’t grow up in the DMV, and Randy might have said to Hailey, “Hey, come over here. There’s a lot of rich idiots and you can do your stuff here.”
Anyway, this week, Randy and Haley face some complications in their big “Kill Bill for Life Insurance” plan. First of all, Randy and Haley talk and plan uptown, Vanessa McBride (Lauren Boglioli) and Danny walk in and watch them together. Of course, Vanessa knows his real name, Randy Parker, because he’s a friend of hers and dead Doug.
But Danny remembers him as the man who took Hayley to the hospital when it was supposed to be, but now we know about the fake abortion in… Uptown Back in early August. So Danny said his name was Sammy, and Vanessa was confused and said, “No, that’s Randy, Doug’s friend.” It appears that Vanessa may mention this encounter to her criminal boyfriend Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) because he then turns around and questions Randy, asking what he is doing with Bill Hamilton’s young wife.
Poisoned Cupcakes: How a pregnancy test could reveal a murder plot
But also, there’s a snag at the hospital tied to Naomi that could factor into this scheme to really blow things up. If you remember, Hayley asked Randy to get her some kind of drug, poison, or poison to kill Bill. She put it in a cupcake and then told him it was gluten-free, sugar-free, etc., basically explaining why it tasted bad. But Bill replaced it and ate a delicious, full-fat cupcake. Naomi took a big bite of the poison before Hayley got scared and snatched her away, slapping her away.
Immediately afterwards, surprisingly, Naomi headed to the hospital and told Ashley Morgan (Jane Jacobs) that she suspected she was pregnant and took a home pregnancy test. “Oh, those words are really accurate,” Ashley said. It doesn’t make sense for Naomi to go there and take a pregnancy test at the hospital because she doesn’t plan to get prenatal care. She is seeking to terminate her pregnancy. It doesn’t mesh with the setting of the plot. That’s why I suspect this test will tie into Hayley’s plot to kill Bill and cash the big insurance check.
From blood test to betrayal: Do lab results reveal poison?
Ashley tells Naomi that the pregnancy test won’t come quickly because it’s routine and Ashley can’t rush it because it’s not urgent. We are two weeks away from the start of the November campaigns, which begin on October 30th. So these test results may come back in November campaigns in a big way. Again, Ashley said she couldn’t rush it. It’s not urgent. So I went ahead and took Naomi for the test, wondering if something had happened that would raise the alarm.
A blood pregnancy test is usually positive or negative, but they may write this down where they test for more than just the hCG, find an abnormality, and do a follow-up test. They usually have more blood than they need for the test. This way, if something happens, they can replay it with the same sample.
The lab can find Hayley’s toxin from the cake in her bloodstream. This doesn’t mean Naomi will immediately think: “Oh, it must be from that cake.” The other question is whether anything Hailey puts in the cupcake could have caused Naomi to miscarry. Can a fake miscarriage cause a real miscarriage? That would be brutal.

Narrative Analysis: Is the blood test the final plot device of Beyond the Gates?
Naomi and Jacob Hawthorne (Jabr Hordges) argue this week, and Naomi once again makes it clear that she doesn’t really want the baby and reminds Jacob that he knew she never wanted kids and said he was nice to her. Having recently killed off Doug, I don’t think the writers are really going to kill off Bill. Plus, with Hayley now planning to kill, it seems like her time is up. Then again, she might get away with it because Dana “Leslie” Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) was never paid for trying to kill Laura. Beyond the gates. So, we’ll see how it goes.
It seems weird to me story-wise to write about Naomi jumping up and deciding she needs a blood pregnancy test right after eating some of those tainted cupcakes. Again, why would she take another test when she told Jacob and Danny she probably wouldn’t go through with the pregnancy? If Naomi is about to miscarry, they will check this at the abortion clinic before performing the procedure. She does not need to go to the hospital and get any type of prenatal testing or care before terminating her pregnancy. This is not how things generally work.
So, we’ll see. But depending on what medication Randy got and Hayley used on the cake, Naomi could lose this baby before she decides to terminate the pregnancy permanently. However, regardless of how it goes, miscarriage or not, I think that blood test Ashley did on Naomi could come back to bite Hayley in the perky little ass.
