Anthropic, the artificial intelligence start-up supported by Google and Amazon.com of Alphabet, announced that it would open its first office in India next year, in order to meet the country’s growing demand for AI tools.
This decision comes as the adoption of AI in India accelerates, fueled by the increase in business technological spending, a growing skilled talent basin and the growing interest of investors.
India, which has nearly a billion Internet users, is becoming a major battlefield for world AI players.
The Asian country has become the second anthropic consumption market for its Chatbot Claude, which competes for the Openai Chatgpt and is renowned for its strong coding capacities.
Anthropic is currently offering free and paid levels from Claude in India, but has not yet introduced a local currency price.
The co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei is expected to go to India this week to meet public officials and partner companies, the company announced $ 183 billion.
The new office will be located in Bangalore, widely recognized as the technological center of India, and operations should start in early 2026, said Anthropic. This site would serve as a second office in the Asia-Pacific region after Tokyo, he added.
OPENAI, supported by Microsoft, was officially registered as a legal entity in India in 2025 and plans to open its first Indian office in New Delhi later this year.
OPENAI and Anthropic are confronted in India with strong competition from competitors such as Gemini from Google and the startup of IA Perplexity, who both launched offers making their advanced advances for many users of the market.
Last month, Anthropic announced its intention to triple its international workforce to respond to an increase in demand for its Claude AI models outside the United States.
