India and China will restart direct flights between the cities designated this month, ending a suspension of more than five years, in a decision which reports a cautious relaxation of bilateral tensions, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.
There has been no direct flight between the two countries since 2020, even if China remains the largest bilateral trading partner in India.
The largest Indian Indigo carrier said that it would start from non -stop daily flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou on October 26. The airline also plans to launch a route connecting New Delhi to the Chinese city.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to China a month ago for the first time in seven years to attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

During the talks, Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that India and China were development partners, not rivals, and discussed means of strengthening trade ties in the midst of the uncertainty of world prices. Modi has also sent India’s commitment to improve links while arousing concerns about the trade deficit of nearly $ 99.2 billion with China.
He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability along their disputed border, where a confrontation in 2020 sparked a five -year military deadlock.
