Wuthering Heights Director Emerald Fennell defended the decision to launch Jacob Elardi in the film. She said that according to her, the actor perfectly represented the character of Heathcliff.
Wuthering Heights is an adaptation of the novel by Emily Brontë of 1847 of the same name. He features Margot Robbie and Jacob Elardi in the main roles, as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, respectively.
However, there has been a controversy surrounding the cast of Elordi in recent weeks. The fans suggest that in the original book, the character is described as someone with dark skin, dark hair and dark eyes. THE Salinburn The actor does not correspond to this description.
During the Brontë Women’s Writing Festival on Friday September 27, Fennell spoke of his next film, notably the cast of Elordi. She shared that she had met him on the sets of Salinburn and said (variety h / t):
“(Elordi) looked exactly like Heathcliff’s illustration on the first book I read. And it was so horrible because I wanted to shout so much. Not the professional thing to do, of course.”
“I had thought of doing (” Wuthering Heights “), and it seemed to me that he had the thing … he is a very surprising actor,” she added.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Indie Wire, published on April 17, Elordi had said that he was planning to take a break. However, he received a text from Fennell, which convinced him to join the casting of the film.
“I was very lucky. I was going to take a break for a while, then Emerald simply sent me a text, and you cannot run from this text,” he said.
The trailer of Wuthering Heights was released on September 3 of this year.

During the aforementioned panel, Fennell also praised Margot Robbie, who will play the role of Catherine Earnshaw in the adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel. She said:
“(Margot is) not) like someone I have ever met – never – and I think that’s what I felt with Cathy.”
She added that Robbie is “so beautiful and interesting and surprising, and she is the type of person who, like Cathy, could get away with anything”.
She also explained:
“I think that honestly, she could commit a wave of murder and no one would care. And that’s Cathy for me. Cathy is someone who is just pushing to see how much she can go. So he needs someone like Margot, who is a star, not just an incredible actress – which means that people lose their minds. ”
Emerald Fennell had also directed SalinburnWho had Margot Robbie as one of the executive producers, while Jacob Elordi played Felix Catton. In an interview with Variety, published in January 2024, Robbie had praised Fennell management.
