At least 50 people died after a ship carrying 75 Sudanese refugees took fire from the Libyan coast on Sunday, the International Migration Organization (IOM) announced on Tuesday.
The IOM said he had provided medical support at 24 survivors saved from the incident.
Libya has long been a major transit point for migrants and refugees who try to reach Europe through the Mediterranean. The situation worsened after the fall 2011 of former chief Muammar Gaddafi during an uprising supported by NATO.
In February 2025, approximately 867,055 migrants of 44 nationalities resided in Libya, according to OIM data.
