A young man in Utah suspected of having killed the influent conservative activist Charlie Kirk in a university in the city of Orem was in detention on Friday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox told journalists. “We got it,” Cox told journalists.
The suspect, identified as Tyler Robinson, had confessed to a family friend – or “had suggested that he had committed the murder” to this friend – and this person had in turn contacted the Sheriff’s Bureau of Washington County on Thursday.
A family member interviewed by investigators said Robinson had become more political recently and had spoken in a derogatory of Kirk, Cox told journalists. Robinson was arrested on Thursday evening, around 33 hours after the kirk murder, said FBI director Kash Patel at the press conference.

Kirk, a close ally of American president Donald Trump, was killed by a single ball while he was talking on stage in an outdoor amphitheater at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Previously, American investigators said they had found the locking bolt rifle that would have been used to kill Kirk and published images of a person of interest.
The investigators spoke to the roommate of Robinson, who showed them comments that Robinson had made on Discord, a popular cat and streaming platform from players, discussing the recovery of a rifle from a fall point, then leaving the rifle in a bush wrapped in a towel. This corresponded to the description of the pistol that the authorities recovered after the shooting in a wooded area near the campus.
The ammunition found on the scene had been registered, said Cox. Messages on the case included: “What is it;” “Oh, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao;” “If you read this, you are gay, lmao;” And “hey fascist, wrestling!”, Cox told journalists.
