Prince Harry finished his last visit to the United Kingdom by attending an event for Diana Award in London on September 11, a charity established in memory of her late mother, Princess Diana. He joined the young participants with social action initiatives that had a positive impact on their mental health.
The appearance came after his visit to Nottingham on September 8 and outings in London, including his first meeting in person with King Charles in 19 months. Harry spent one of his longer periods in the United Kingdom since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022, after deciding royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with his wife, Meghan Markle.
During the event, Harry paid tribute to his mother, saying that his heritage continues with the empowerment of young people. He encouraged the participants: “Do not stay motion, do not remain silent – Do you hear you because you speak for the majority.” The discussion was led by Dan Lawes, activist for the rights of children and trustee of the Diana Prize, alongside the Panelists Lottie Leach, Elsa Arnold and Idorenyin Hope Akpan.
By thinking about the stories of young activists, Harry said: “getting involved in peaceful social action takes courage and determination. A goal combined with action can help overcome a feeling of despair, and that’s exactly what you have shown today. The agency is not a luxury for young people, it is a lifeline. ”
Diana Award is one of the rare causes shared by Harry and Prince William, despite their current rift. The two brothers regularly participate in events in honor of young people, although Harry attended the event without William and should not meet him during this trip.
The CEO of the charity, Tessy Ojo, noted that Diana Award continues the heritage of the princess by empowering young people on a global scale and promoting the values of duty, empathy and service. The event has marked a year since the launch of the “Decade of Young well-being” of Diana Award, a program supported by Harry aimed at improving the mental health of young people worldwide.
Ojo stressed the urgency of the problem, saying that a in five youngster has a diagnose mental health problem, and four in ten feel helpless about their future. She added: “When young people trust to direct and act, their well-being increases, their resilience develops and hope is restored. In simple terms, action cures spirits. “
The appearance of Harry followed his private meeting of September 10 with King Charles in Clarence House, their first face to face since February 2024. He arrived around 5:20 p.m. local time and remained about 55 minutes. Asked about his father later, Harry replied: “Yes, he’s great, thank you.”
