The hearing into the Premier League’s accusations against Manchester City on alleged violations of financial rules is over, according to reports.
The club was charged with 115 violations, later increased to 130, related to inaccurate financial reporting over a 14-year period, from 2009-10 to 2017-18.
The hearing, which took place at the International Dispute Resolution Center in London, saw both sides present their final submissions.
A three-person panel will now deliberate on the evidence before reaching a verdict, which is expected to take several months due to the scale of the case.
If found guilty, Manchester City could face tough sanctions, including hefty financial fines and possible points deductions, or even relegation, although the club has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and said it has ” irrefutable evidence” to exonerate himself.
The investigation into Manchester City’s finances was launched after the publication of leaked documents in German magazine Der Spiegel in 2018. The charges also allege the club failed to fully cooperate with the Premier League’s investigation.
With the hearing now concluded, the football world awaits the panel’s decision, which could have significant implications for the reigning Premier League champions. Manchester City said they “look forward to this matter being resolved once and for all”.
