Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas are delighted to join forces again if they both go to the last list of Alas Pilipinas in the male world championship of Vivb Male Volleyball from September 12 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Espejo, who used to compete with Bagunas in the UAAP grass and Spikers before helping to direct the Philippines to a history medal in Southeast Asian Games 2019, is eager to share the court with his colleague Star Spiker.
“It’s been years since Bryan and I have played together for the last time, so I’m really happy (when I am a team to team up again),” said Espejo, who played with Bagunas for the last time at the Asian games of 2023. “I missed his presence and his energy on the field, and I am delighted to play again.”
After a year -long launch of a knee injury, Bagunas is simply happy to train again with the national team and also likes to work with younger players.
“Honestly, during my first training with them, I was surprised in the right direction,” said Bagunas. “Their improvement is enormous. I did not even feel like they are training with recruits. Compared to those with which I played last year, these guys really intensified it.”
Bagunas and Espejo honored the MRT Go live! Event to promote accommodation by the country of the world championship of 32 countries on Wednesday. They were joined by Owa Retamar, Kim Malabunga, Steve Rotter, Louie Ramirez, Buds Buddin, Leo Ordiales, Josh Ybañez, Peng Taguibolos, Lucca Mamone, Vince Lorenzo, Jack Kalingking and Lloyd Josafat.
Armed with their European training camp to three countries, the faces of Philippin male volleyball leave no stone not returned with a week before taking Tunisia in the opener.
“I am excited, but we always focus on training so that we can bring out the full potential of the team,” said Espejo. “It’s a big tournament, of course, and we are all ready.
“As a team, we still have a long way to go, but we have also traveled a long way since we started to train together, especially during our camp in Europe.”
Alas then faces Egypt on September 16 and Iran four days later.
“All are difficult. We know that the level of play is very high,” said Bagunas when asked for the opposition and the most difficult team of their group. “But if I had to choose, I would say that Iran. Iran is really on another level. However, we will do our best to perform well.
“We are right there to play our game and show what we have learned from our coaches,” he continued. “We want to prove that Philippin male volleyball has a real chance of competing worldwide. As they say, it is only the beginning of more people to recognize what we are capable of. ”
