CHICAGO:
The ultimate goal of US President Donald Trump in sending troops to US cities is to take control of the elections in 2026, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said, qualifying such deployments an invasion.
Trump – Who triggered unprecedented military patrols in Los Angeles and Washington to slow down demonstrations against his immigrant expulsion campaign and fight against what he considers crime outside control – said he was also planning to send troops to cities like Baltimore and Chicago.
The Democrat Pritzker said that there had been no effort from the Trump administration to coordinate these plans with Illinois officials, a democratic bastion.
“It is therefore clear that, in secret, they predict that, well, it is an invasion with American troops, if they do it in fact,” Pritzker told CBS Sunday Show “Face The Nation”.
Internal security secretary Kristi Noem said earlier than any decision to send reservists from the National Guard or other troops was up to Trump.
