Russia launched one of its heaviest missile and drone dams on the capital of Ukraine on Thursday, killing at least 23 people, including four children, and damaging the mission of the European Union and the British Council offices in kyiv.
The mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that a five -story residential block had been destroyed while several other buildings have been seriously damaged, describing it as one of the largest assaults in recent months. Thirty-eight people were injured during the one hour attack, which struck 13 locations across the country.
The attack was the first major combined attack of Russian drones and missiles against kyiv since US President Donald Trump met Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska earlier this month to discuss the end of the war in Ukraine. (Reuters)
Ukraine said Moscow had drawn nearly 600 drones and 31 missiles, including nine ballistic missiles, in the night dam. The air defenses intercepted 563 drones and 26 missiles, although 13 targets suffered direct blows. Energy facilities have also been damaged, causing power failures in central regions, notably Vinnytsia, where 60,000 residents lost electricity after a strike on critical infrastructure. The national operator of the Ukrenergo network confirmed that the energy facilities were among the objectives.

British Foreign Minister David Lammy also summoned the Moscow ambassador to London, condemning “murder and destruction”.

EU’s foreign business manager Kaja Kallas summoned the Russian envoy to Brussels after the block delegation building was damaged. “No diplomatic mission should never be a target,” she said.
The president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen carried out more pressure on Moscow, saying that the block would soon reveal a 19th pack of sanctions and was taking out work on how to use frozen RUS to help Ukraine. “This is another dark reminder of what is at stake,” she said. “Europe will fully play its role.”

The Russian Defense Ministry said it had targeted industrial military and air bases, while Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that “the special military operation” continues, insisting that Ukraine has also attacked Russian infrastructure.
Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia would intensify strikes on the country’s energy network as winter approaches.
Russia has intensified its air attacks against cities and cities far from the front line, while pressing a grinding offensive in the east. Moscow has repeatedly denied striking civilians, although thousands have been killed since the February 2022 invasion.
