Prince Philip’s real feelings about Prince Harry’s marriage and Meghan Markle were revealed in a new memory by the former royal butler Grant Harrold. According to an extract published by The telegraph On Monday, after the ceremony, Prince Philip expressed his intense relief in a frank remark of four words.
While the couple and other members of the royal family left the St. George chapel following the wedding, Prince Philip would have turned to Queen Elizabeth II and would have said: “Thank you F – K which is finished.”
This comment, highlighted in the next Harrold Memoirs The Royal Butlerhighlights the reaction of the Duke of Edinburgh at the 2018 highly publicized marriage. The late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip attended the ceremony, which was a major royal event of the year.
While Prince Philip was not delighted with Harry’s decision and Meghan to leave the royal functions in 2020, he refrained from intervening publicly. The Brandreth Years Biographer noted that Prince Philip understood that people should lead their lives as they see fit. He recognized Harry’s desire to do things in his own way, calling him a “good man”.
Philip’s reaction to the couple’s decision to move to California, known as “Megxit”, would have been billed. He commented: “It’s his life (Prince Harry)”, adding: “I will be absent soon and not before the time.”
Despite the distance, Philip would have been welcoming for Meghan when she joined the royal family, although he had no chance of forming a close link with her because of her retirement. According to the biographer Ingrid Seward, he did not see much of Meghan at the time, which may have limited their relationship.
After Philip’s death in April 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle published a declaration expressing their gratitude for his service and honoring his memory on the website of the Archewell Foundation.
