Manila, Philippines-Strong Group Athletics-Philippines won his fifth consecutive victory in the 44th William Jones Cup, dominant Chinese Taipei-White, 107-75, Thursday at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium.

Tajuan Agee rebounded a quiet outing with a first half, ending with 25 points on 10 shots of 12, six rebounds, three assists, two interceptions and a block – all in just under 16 minutes before sitting the second half.

“I played well today. The guys were locked up from the start,” said head coach Charles Tiu after the match. “Your agee was great and dominated them from the start. The best offensive basketball for us.”

A strong group ran at a start of 39-24, then widened the gap with a 22-9 race to close half. Agee marked 11 during this section to push the advance to 61-33.

After pulling only 22.6% of the depth of their first four games, the Philippins finally found their blow, overthrowing 14 triplets out of 31 for a clip of 45.2%.

Ian Miller added 13 points, Javi Gomez de Liaño collected 12 and 11 rebounds, and Kiefer Ravena finished with 11 points and six assists. Rhenz Abandono and Dave Ildefonso added 10 each, while Geo Chiu made a perfect 4-in-4 for eight points and five plates.

Strong Group checked the boards, 52-39, and shared the ball well with 27 assists in Chinese Taipei.

“We are improving each match. 27 assists and finally three -point figures. It was a satisfactory performance,” said Tiu.

Now at 5-0, the Filipinos are faced with Malaysia Friday before a key match against Invainu Bahrain (6-0).
