None of the previous results between La Salle and University of the Philippines (UP) matter when the first game of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament begins.

Even two-time MVP Kevin Quiambao of the Green Archers knows this. All that matters is who comes best prepared for Sunday’s clash at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“I think coming into this final, we’re back to 0-0 right now,” Quiambao said as La Salle renews its rivalry against the Fighting Maroons that began last season. “No matter the history of our past matches in the first and second rounds, this is a new match.”

The tigers enter the final, but not with excessive exultation

The University of Santo Tomas has been striving for the chance to defend its UAAP women’s basketball crown.

But there were no big celebrations on the field, just a team rally after the final buzzer and a cautious return to the dugout after the school anthem. That’s because the Snarling Tigresses know what awaits them.

Santo Tomas stopped Adamson dead in his tracks at the close of the stepladder semifinals Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum and will face a familiar foe in National University (NU) for the Season 87 championship, with both finalists considering a kind of redemption.
