This came after Hamas said that he was ready to release a living hostage from the Israelis, Edan Alexander, as well as the bodies of four other Israeli-Americans in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

A delegation from Hamas said that the proposal to present the five had also been presented by the United States. But the United States, the key military ally of Israel, have since criticized the insistence of Hamas on this proposal.

“The delegation asked the mediators and guarantors, the United States, to oblige the occupation (Israel) to implement the humanitarian protocol, to immediately allow humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and start the second phase of negotiations,” said a Hamas official on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the Trêve de Gaza.
