Aubrey Plaza has entered the public’s eyes for the first time since the tragic death of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena.

The 40 -year -old actress attended the SNL50: the special birthday event in New York on Sunday, February 16, where she presented the musical guests Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard. Plaza, however, jumped the red carpet before the event.

Baena, known for films such as I Heart Huckabees (2004), Life After Beth (2014), Horse Girl (2020) and Spin Me Round (2022), was found dead in a house in Los Angeles-Area on January 3 2025. The medical examiner of Los Angeles then tried his death a suicide.

Plaza and Baena have been together for more than a decade, starting their relationship in 2011 before doing the knot in 2021. After his death, Plaza and the Baena family published a statement to people on January 6, saying:

“This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to all those who offered support. Please respect our privacy during this period.”

A funeral service took place for Baena in Miami on January 10, where relatives gathered to honor his memory. A necrology published in Miami Herald described it as “a son, a husband, a brother, an uncle and a beloved friend.” This highlighted his passion for narration and his ability to bring people together, both on and off the film sets.

The Billology also referred to the love of Baena’s childhood for The Little Prince of Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry, noting the poignant words of the book:

“Ironically, the little prince exclaims:” I don’t have much time. I have friends to find and so much to learn. “And it was for Jeff.”

Concluding with a sincere tribute, the ONCRology has read:

“We will always love and deeply miss Jeff. His presence, as well as his work, has made it feel better in the world. He had much more to offer. Alas, everything that went. Sweet dreams, our little prince.”

During the SNL50 event, Plaza appeared dark but composed, dressed in black dress pants, a black blazer and a simple t-shirt below. Although she did not approach the death of Baena during the event, her quiet return in the spotlight marked an important moment after weeks of mourning.
