The United Nations:
The United Nations envoy to Syria called on its new authorities on Wednesday to prevent a “cycle of remuneration and revenge” after the reversal of the brutal rule of Bashar al-Assad.
During a meeting of the Security Council, Geir Pedersen spoke of concerns about “men killed in the exchange of fires and reported serious ill -treatment in detention” which take place under the country’s transitional authorities.
He deplored the reports of “removal, looting, expropriation of goods and forced expulsions of families of social housing”.
Assad was overthrown in December by the rebel forces led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, whose chief Ahmed Al-Sharaa is now the acting president of the country.
