The BBC published the results of its internal survey on the behavior of Russell Brand during his mandate as a radio presenter, revealing multiple allegations of misconduct. The report, published on Thursday, January 30, concluded that the staff did not feel able to point out the actions of the brand because of its celebrity status, and the broadcaster has since apologized to employees who feared talking about .
According to Peter Johnston, director of BBC’s editorial complaints and criticisms, eight complaints were filed concerning the brand’s conduct while he worked at Radio 2 And 6 music Between 2006 and 2008. However, only two were officially deposited during his job. The report revealed that Brand, now 49 years old, would have engaged in inappropriate behavior, in particular by urinating in studio cuts, throwing objects, having sex on site – including with a winner of the competition – and expose yourself to staff and visitors.
A specific incident, involving a woman identified as “Olivia”, alleged that the brand followed it in a bathroom and exposed itself. The report stipulates that this behavior was “of public notoriety” and was even joking among the staff, an answer that Johnston called “unacceptable for something so serious”.
The investigation also revealed that Brand had a relationship with a 16 -year -old child, identified as “Alice”, during which he would have organized drivers funded by the BBC to transport it from the school to his home. The report determined that if it happened, it was probably without direct knowledge of the BBC staff who reserved the cars.
Johnston’s conclusions described a culture in which many BBC employees, especially those with junior roles, said the brand’s behavior was futile. “Many interviewed people thought, wrongly or wrongly, that the Russell brand would always have its way and therefore they remained silent,” noted the report.
The BBC recognized its inability to adequately respond to concerns at the time, declaring: “There were shortcomings of conformity on some of the Russell brands Radio 2 TRADINGS, which led the broadcast content that would not be broadcast today. The broadcaster also confirmed that he was in contact with the metropolitan police, who conducts a separate investigation into allegations of sexual assault against the brand.
Brand, who left the BBC in 2008 following a high -level editorial violation, has always denied all allegations, declaring that his relations were “always consensual”. Neither his representatives commented on the last conclusions of the BBC.
