President Donald Trump is expected to sign a decree on Wednesday aimed at combating the increase in anti -Semitism, following the mortal on October 7, 2023, the attack on Hamas against Israel.
According to a White House official, the order will focus on the continuation of violent acts against American Jews and will undertake to expel non-citizen students and other people involved in pro-Palestinian demonstrations, in particular those who have presumed links with Hamas.
The decree details “immediate action” by the Ministry of Justice to target anti -Semitic threats, vandalism and violence, calling on federal agencies to work together to combat the sharp increase in these incidents.
“For all resident foreigners who have joined the pro-jihadist demonstrations, we have noted you: come 2025, we will find you, and we will expel you,” said Trump in an information sheet describing order.
The order also promises Swift Action to cancel the student visas of anyone who was found to sympathize with Hamas, accusing American university campuses of becoming “infested of radicalism”.
This decision comes during the months of demonstrations on American university campuses, after Hamas’ attacks and reprisals from Israel in Gaza.
These demonstrations, initially triggered by violence in Gaza, were spoiled by reports of anti-Semitic and anti-arab incidents, with civil rights groups documenting an increase in hate speeches and violence.
However, many demonstrators have denied supporting Hamas, highlighting their opposition to the military actions of Israel in Gaza, which has given more than 47,000 deaths, including many women and children.
Under the new order, federal agencies will have to submit recommendations within 60 days on the way in which existing laws can be exploited to combat anti -Semitism. In addition, the order requires the abolition of resident foreigners who engage in illegal activities.
Protesters are accused of having damaged Jewish institutions, harassing Jewish students and vandalizing American monuments.
The Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned order, appealing it to a violation of freedom of expression and Palestinian rights. The group described order as “dishonest, too far away and inapplicable”.
This decision also attracts criticism from civil liberties organizations, which argue that it risks criminalizing political expression and undergoing freedom of expression.
While Trump’s re-election campaign in 2024 is intensifying, the position of his administration on pro-Palestinian activism has become an important problem.
During his campaign, Trump had already undertaken to expel the individuals involved in such demonstrations, and this new decree also demonstrates his commitment to this promise.
