Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has liked a social media post linking him with a move to fellow Champions League club AC Milan. Nunez, who has struggled to get regular game time under new manager Arne Slot, has been linked with a potential move to the Italian giants during the January window.
The Uruguayan striker has joined the Reds in 2022, following his record £85 million move from Benfica. However, he has failed to live up to high expectations and is currently behind Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in the Slot hierarchy.
AC Milan TMN reported earlier that the club had started talks with Liverpool over a half-season loan deal, which would include an obligation to buy this summer for £37.4 million . This speculation is sure to gain traction after Nunez liked an Instagram story featuring him in an AC Milan jersey.
Although Milan remain strongly linked with Darwin Nunez, a contrasting report from Mail Simon Jones suggests Liverpool have received no communication from the Italian club regarding a possible transfer.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot himself has expressed confidence in the striker’s ability to influence matches.
“For me, he has an impact. If you just look at the goals, he hasn’t scored as many goals as he wants, or we want a number nine to score, but it has an impact on his work rate. He is part of a team that scores a lot of goals and wins a lot,” he said (via BBC)
Liverpool are in great form and currently top the Premier League table. They hold a six-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who have played a game more than the Reds.
Liverpool legend shares his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential exit
While Nunez has been linked with a move, several reports suggest Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold could be heading to Real Madrid next summer. The full-back’s contract expires at the end of the season, allowing him to begin negotiations with other clubs this month.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, in a post on social media platform
“The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is to win the #PremierLeague. No contract or future should stand in the way of that! I like Trent as a boy and a player, but his team would have told Real Madrid to make an offer. And I would have also known LFC would refuse. This is to try and cover themselves when he leaves for free. huge match to come”, he tweeted.
The Reds are preparing for a tough run of matches this month, starting with a crucial clash against Manchester United at Anfield on January 5. They will then travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final on January 8.
