Lakers vs Hornets postponed due to LA wildfires

The NBA postponed Thursday’s game between the Charlotte Hornets and the host Lakers due to wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

A new date for the match at Cryto.com Arena will be announced at a later date, the league said.

“The entire NBA family sends our thoughts and support to the Los Angeles community during this difficult time,” the NBA said in a statement Thursday. “We are grateful to the thousands of local firefighters and first responders who showed immense courage. Our prayers are with those affected by the unimaginable devastation caused by the wildfires.

These wildfires are the most destructive in the city’s history, according to the Wildfire Alliance of Los Angeles. At least five people were killed and thousands of structures burned along with nearly 28,000 acres.

In total, more than 100,000 people were ordered to evacuate their homes. Major fires occurred after months without rain and strong winds sweeping the region.

The NHL’s Los Angeles Kings postponed their home game against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, with no dates rescheduled at this time.

The NFL is also monitoring the situation, with the Los Angeles Rams scheduled to host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night in an NFC wild-card playoff game. The league said Wednesday that the game would continue as scheduled, but could be moved to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., home of the Arizona Cardinals. –Field level media
