Gaza War and Trump Peace Plan

Israel invaded Gaza in retaliation for the attack led by Hamas against the Israeli communities in the South on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage to Gaza, according to Israeli accounts.

Most of the population of 2.3 million Gaza was moved internally while Israel has grown a military assault which killed more than 64,000 Palestinians and ravaged a large part of the enclave.

In February of this year, Trump presented his idea of Gaza to take control of the Gaza Strip, saying to a round table in Qatar that the United States “would make a zone of freedom” and argued that nothing left in Palestinian territory.

He had previously said that he wanted to transform Gaza into a “riviera of the Middle East”, suggesting that the United States would redevelop him and force the Palestinians to go elsewhere.

The Palestinians vehemently rejected any plan that involving them leaving Gaza, comparing such ideas to the “Nakba” of 1948 or the “disaster”, when hundreds of thousands were dispossessed of their houses in the war which led to the creation of Israel. Many said they prefer to live in the ruins of their houses.

The plan has also aroused global condemnation, with the Palestinians, the Arab nations and the UN saying that this would be equivalent to ethnic cleaning.

Since then, the deliberations have continued but have not given any results beyond the declarations of conviction. However, the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly was finally productive, while President Trump met the best Muslim leaders on the sidelines to jointly explore a solution and work at the end of the war.

On Monday, President Trump published a 20-point peace proposal for Gaza which would end the war between Israel and Hamas and required the return of all hostages, living and dead, within 72 hours of a cease-fire.

The plan, which referred to a refurbished Gaza like “New Gaza”, results from intense negotiations in recent weeks between Trump and his team, and Israeli and Arab leaders.

According to the plan, if the two parties accepted the proposal, the war would end immediately. Israeli forces would partially withdraw to prepare for a release of hostages. All military operations would be suspended and the battle lines would be frozen in place until the conditions are met for the “complete withdrawal” of Israeli forces.

He said that within 72 hours of the absence of Israel, publicly accepting the proposal, all the hostages, living and dead, would have returned. Once all the hostages have been released, Israel is released 250 Palestinian prisoners serving lifetime sentences plus 1,700 gasians arrested after the start of the conflict on October 7, 2023. For each Israeli hostage whose remains were released, Israel would release the remains of 15 dead gasans.

Once all the hostages have been released, members of Hamas “who engage in peaceful coexistence” and abandoned weapons would be granted an amnesty. The members of Hamas who wanted to leave Gaza received a safe visit to the countries of reception.

He said that during the acceptance of this Agreement, full aid would be immediately sent to the Gaza Strip, with quantities compatible with levels mandated under an agreement on January 19, 2025. Aid deliveries would take place without interference from Israel or Hamas through the United Nations and related agencies.

The 20 -point plan has also added that a “de -radicated” Gaza would not constitute a threat to its neighbors and would be “refurbished” for the benefit of Gazans.

The Trump plan has envisaged a “peace council” of international supervisors led by Trump himself and including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in an indefinite role. Gaza would be governed under temporary transitional governance of a “technocratic and apolitical” committee composed of Palestinians and international experts, to be supervised by the Board of Peace. This group would define the framework and manage the funding of the redevelopment of Gaza until the Palestinian authority has undergone major reforms.

A Trump’s economic development plan to rebuild Gaza would be created by summoning a panel of experts “who helped give birth to some of the flourishing modern miracle cities in the Middle East”. A special economic area would be established with prices and preferred access rates to negotiate with participating countries.

He said that as part of the plan, no one would have to leave Gaza, who had suffered big damage during the war, and those who wanted to leave would be free to do so and come back. “We will encourage people to stay and offer them the opportunity to build a better Gaza,” said the plan.

The plan has also said that Hamas and other factions would agree to have no role in Gaza’s governance, directly or indirectly. All military infrastructure, including tunnels and weapons production facilities, are destroyed. Independent monitors would oversee the demilitarization of Gaza.

According to the plan, “New Gaza would be fully determined to build a prosperous economy and to coexist peaceful with their neighbors”.

He also added that regional partners would work to ensure that Hamas and related factions comply with their obligations and that the new Gaza posed no threat.

The Trump plan said the United States would work with Arab and international partners to develop a temporary international stabilization force to immediately deploy in Gaza.

He said that Israel would not occupy or annoy Gaza. The Israeli defense forces would gradually put the territory of Gaza which it occupied with the force of international stabilization.

The 20 -point plan said the plan was vague on a path to the Palestinian state. He said that if the redevelopment of Gaza has progressed and that when the Palestinian authority has been reformed, “the conditions can finally be in place for a credible path towards self -determination and the Palestinian state, which we recognize as the aspiration of the Palestinian people.”

Finally, the plan also proposed a process of dialogue, claiming that the United States would establish a dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to agree on a “political horizon for a peaceful and prosperous coexistence”.
