PARIS:
Tens of thousands of people protested in France Thursday against public spending discounts because President Emmanuel Macron was to appoint a new government this weekend, sources said.
Macron, who has only 18 months in power and undergoes his worst levels of popularity, had trouble withdrawing France from the worsening of the political and economic crisis.
The president is expected to constitute a leaner team under Sébastien Lecornu, his seventh Prime Minister, told AFP sources.
By ensuring a call from the unions, some 600,000 demonstrators organized a new day of demonstrations across the country, said the leftist union CGT. The Ministry of the Interior has put the participation rate in 195,000 people.
In comparison, the unions said that more than a million people went down to the street two weeks ago, when many schools were closed and public transport was at a standstill.
“You can feel that the country is changing,” said Jean-Luc Melenchon to the hard bracele on the left during a rally in Paris.
