Trump says Gaza Peace Deal near, the hostages could soon be released

President Donald Trump said on Friday that he was close to an agreement to end the war in Gaza and bring the hostages home.

“It seems that we have an agreement on Gaza. I think it is an agreement that brings back the hostages, it will be an agreement that ends the war,” Trump told journalists before leaving the White House to attend the Ryder Cup golf tournament in New York.

He did not offer more details.

While international leaders gathered at the United Nations in New York this week, the United States has unveiled a 9-point peace plan in the Middle East to end the almost two year war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

The proposal was broadcast on Tuesday to officials of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan, according to American special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Trump, who remains the most faithful ally of Israel on the world scene, said that he spoke on Thursday with representatives of several Middle East nations as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump on the West Bank

Trump said Thursday that he would not allow Israel to annex the West Bank, rejecting the calls of certain far -right politicians in Israel who wish to extend sovereignty over the region and stifle the hopes of a Palestinian state.

Gaza Deal Talks

While international leaders meet at the United Nations in New York, the United States presented a 21-point peace plan in the Middle East in order to end the almost two year war in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian Militant group of Hamas.

He was shared with leaders and officials of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan on Tuesday, according to American special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Trump, who remains Israel’s most faithful ally on the world scene, said he spoke with representatives of the Middle East nations and Netanyahu on Thursday and that an agreement on Gaza could soon occur.

“We want the hostages to come back, we want the bodies to come back and we want to have peace in this region. So we have had very good discussions,” he said.

Israel has attracted the global condemnation of his war in Gaza, which approaches the two-year brand, who are constantly in sight. The conflict caused a major destruction and killed more than 65,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities.
