An explosion tore a coffee in Madrid on Saturday, injuring 21 people, three of whom were seriously, said local emergency services.
The explosion struck around 3:00 p.m. (1300 GMT) in the Vallecas Puente district, damaging coffee on the ground floor and apartments above, officials added.
Deputy Mayor Inmaculada Sanz said the first results indicated a gas leak but that the cause was still being studied. Several residents of the building were among the slightly injured, while the authorities evacuated nine apartments until the security of the structure could be confirmed.
The photos published by the Civil Defense of Madrid showed broken windows, collapsed walls and a car damaged by debris. The firefighters, the paramedical paramedics and the police completed the region while the rescue teams worked on the scene.
