The terrorists killed at least 55 people in northeast Nigeria while storming a city city to residents who had been returned from a closed camp for internal people, said a worker of the NGOs on Saturday.

The Friday evening assault occurred during an attack on the city of Darul Jamal, which welcomes a military base on the Nigeria-Cameroon border. A security source told AFP that five soldiers were one of the dead, while a militia commander Babagana Ibrahim put the six number.

The attacks began around 9:00 p.m. Friday in Darul Jamal, a community of the Bama district recently reinstalled after years of travel, and continued to Daybreak. The activists also struck Banka Town, killing residents and travelers, according to the villagers.

“More than 50 people were killed during last night attacks,” said a civil source, adding that many victims were one of the internal displaced people (PDI) who had returned to their communities. Another source said that several residents remained missing.

At least 20 houses and 10 buses were burned, witnesses reported.

Bama was one of the hardest affected areas of the Boko Haram insurgency a decade ago when activists forced mass movement in what became one of the worst humanitarian crises in the region. Nigerian authorities began to reinstall families in 2016, with Darul Jamal among the last communities to be repopulated.
