The chief of the Red Cross warned on Saturday that it would be impossible to keep people safe during a massive evacuation of Gaza City, while Israel intensifies his assault.
Israel is going forward with its plan to take total control of the entire Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City, in order to destroy Hamas after almost 23 months of war, while facing a global outcry on famine in the besieged enclave.
“It is impossible for a massive evacuation of the city of Gaza to ever be done in a safe and dignified manner in the current conditions,” said the president of the Red Cross Mirjana Spooljaric in a press release.

An evacuation would cause a massive displacement of the population that no other area of the Gaza strip is equipped to absorb, in the middle of serious shortages of food, shelters and medical supplies, said SPOLJARIC.
The Israeli army said on Friday that it “will continue to support humanitarian efforts alongside current maneuvers and offensive operations against terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip in order to protect the state of Israel”.
Israel urged civilians to leave for the south of the Palestinian enclave.
Many people in Gaza City could not follow the evacuation orders because they are hungry, sick or injured, said Spoljaric.
International humanitarian law forces Israel to ensure that civilians have access to shelter, security and nutrition, when evacuation orders are issued.
