Alleiah Malaluan entered the first volleyball league as a prized recruit with large expectations.
Two games, she delivers – then some.
After consecutive prices for the best player in the game in his first two games as a pro, the former star in the room holds not only hers, but quickly became one of the most reliable weapons in the PLDT at the PVL 2024 invitation conference.
“It pushes me to raise the bar even higher, because even my ATA (older teammates) are there to guide me,” said Malaluan, fresh out of a 12-point outing in the 25-19, 25-13, 25-22 PLDT victory on Cignal Arena Cigal on Saturday.
The 21 -year -old’s rapid ascent is not an accident. After her visit with Alas Pilipinas, where she won her first national team cap, Malaluan arrived with a deeper understanding of the game – and the necessary confidence.
“They always make sure-every time I make a mistake, they say to me:” It’s good, you will recover it, “she said. “It really helps me become a better player.”
This growth has been fully exposed. She made her debut with an 11-point top against Chery Tiggo, adding 13 excavations and nine receptions, in a match where head coach Rald Ricafort rested the veterans Kim Dy and Savi Davison. Against cignal, Malaluan followed with another effective performance.
With Malaluan now joining Dy, Davison, Majoy Baron and Dell Palomata – all national team players – PLDT have turned into an even more formidable force. The high-speed strikers are 3-0 in the invitation and on a sequence of victories of 10 games which started with their undefeated race at the PVL on the title of the tour.
“This team is in depth,” said Ricafort. “Alleiah gives us more options, and it adapts very well to our system.”
This system was in the midst of a staple. Even if the HD spikers threatened in the third set, leading 19-16 at one point, the PLDT showed calculation, thwarting with strokes of Dy, Davison and Kath Arado, as well as a rare challenge that cost his final exam to cignal. – Sportsmith of the Inquirer
