Michele Gumabao received only one instruction from his coach.
“Coach Sherwin said:” Just hit him, “said the veteran blocker.
Gumabao answered the call, releasing an attack dam in decisive moments for Power Creamline after Cigal, 22-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-11, 15-8, and launches the PVL Invitational on a winning note Thursday at Philsports Arena.
“I just went for that,” added Gumabao, who finished with 22 points, including five in the final set. “That’s all that was in my mind – when I see a chance, I hit it with all the power I have.”
After having lagged behind 1-2 and endured a collapse of the third pungent set, the cool smashers overthrew the switch. They dominated the fourth framework and relied on the Gumabao fire power to create a 12-6 cushion in the fifth.
Sheena Toring and Jema Galanza then delivered the final blows.
The reigning invitation MVP collected 18 striking attacks and four blocks, and added 15 excavations in a match that tested Creamline resolution.
“Even in the fifth set, we cannot show that we are tired,” said Gumabao. “This is what I focused on, and of course, I trusted my teammates. I would not be able to score without their support and their teamwork.”
The turnaround of the Fourth Set of Creamline was punctuated by an unexpected point of the Setter Kyle Negrito, which recorded 32 excellent sets and four points. This burst took place in the decision maker, where the cool smashers simply refused to fold.
Galanza collected 18 points and 17 receptions, including the winning death of the match, while Aalyssa Valdez contributed 11 points, 14 excellent receptions and 12 excavations.
Despite an official 1-1 record due to PVL Retansets in the semi-finals, Gumabao quickly waged victory as a lesson in resilience.
“I think the best thing we have obtained from this match was to win a five set,” she said. “We lost our previous ones, and we really felt the pressure again. This is what we needed – to overcome this pressure. ”
“From the start, we knew that we could not relax – even if we had good results in the previous matches. It’s a new season, and we must continue to push. We cannot just go with the rhythm of the opponent. This is actually one of the things we have fought – we move away from our own game. We have to overcome this.”
Cignal, which fell to 0-2, had 21 points from Heather Guino-O and a quiet evening of the MVP of the Erika Santos tour, which finished with 11 points on 40 attacks.
The next Creamline test occurs on Saturday against Chery Tiggo, and Gumabao knows that the path becomes more difficult.
“Our goal is still the championship,” she said. “But we take a match at a time. The turnaround between the games is so fast. Right now, we are focusing on rest, recovery and improvement.”
