This collective force occurred in the winner’s final. On the verge of sorrow after having wasted an advance in two sets, PLDT stabilized behind the MVP of the Mika Reyes and Majoy Baron, who formed a formidable clear defense to repel the return of Chery Tiggo. With Davison’s score and a resilient finish, high-speed strikers obtained an exciting victory of 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 24-26, 15-8 before 11,055 fans of the Mall of Asia Arena.

“I said from all angles – we are a threat,” said Davison, who led all the scorers with 23 points. “People continue to say that it’s just Savi, but in practice, in the games, I cannot believe the girls who arise. I think we have some of the best athletes in our gymnasium. I’m so happy to be part of it. They make me better every day, and I just hope that I will do the same for them.”

Reyes has chosen the perfect time to release 20 career points, including a seven -block championship record. Baron added 13 points, including six on blocks that helped break the pace of Chery Tiggo in the final set. Kianna Dy also collected 13 points and sealed the victory with a winning block.

The best Libero Kath Arado anchored the defense and the veteran Kim Fajardo orchestrated the offense. The Jovy Prado and Kiesha Bedonia also intensified the players during the absence of Davison when she was in Canada earlier this season – Helping Living Pldt’s PVL PVL Crown since he joined the professional ranks in 2021.

Something bigger

For head coach Rald Ricafort, the championship was the long-awaited gain for a team that endured Heartbreak after Heartbreak.

“I think they really adopted their roles,” said Ricafort in Philippin. “Savi usually carries a large score load, but everything has clicked – from Mika’s blockage to everyone.”

It was not only a question of winning, added Ricafort. It was a question of learning to close the difficult matches-something that PLDT had trouble during its previous campaigns, including an outing in the quarterfinals in Choco Mucho at the last entirely-Filipino conference and a semi-final sorrow in Akari during the previous reinforced tournament.

“I am happy that we have won the championship, but I am even more proud than the players finally overcome something we have tried to teach: how to finish and win tight matches,” said Ricafort. “With all the difficult experiences and the sorrows we have had, they never abandoned. Instead of letting these difficulties draw them, they used them to grow. This maturity – this is what made this victory so well.”

For Davison, victory did not concern individual distinctions. It was a question of being part of something bigger.

“Pldt was there long before I arrived,” she said. “I’m just happy to be able to contribute. People always ask me, “Why Pldt?” And I can’t say anything else but I’m so happy.

High speed strikers will not have much time to celebrate. They again face Chery Tiggo on Thursday to open the conference on the invitation to Philsports Arena, followed by matches against Kurashiki Ablaze and Kobe Shinwa from Kobe Shinwa University.

But this is the rhythm of the game – and the PLDT is ready to continue to climb.

“I think it’s really not to stop,” said Ricafort. “We always say to our players,” never kick us too much with what you have accomplished. And it goes for us coaches too. Each conference, each year, the level of play increases. You cannot settle. You continue to improve improvement. And you present yourself every day ready to give everything, knowing that no matter the result, you have done your part. ” Inq
