It may be the pre-season, but for Pldt and Chery Tiggo, win the very first PVL in Tower Crown means everything when they come up against a winning championship match on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
All the roads lead to Pasay City at 6.30 p.m. when the Pioneer Professional Volleyball League in the country culminates its first pre-season tournament, which brought the action to eight provinces.
There is practically no passion, intensity and competitiveness among the 12 teams, who treated pre-season like any other conference.
But in the end, two increased at the top. And only one will be able to wear the crown.
The PLDT stood up as a team to beat, who swept away his seven games – won an epic victory of return of five sets out of 10 times Creamline champion – in his first PVL final.
“We have a state of mind according to which there is no pre-season tournaments because we are preparing and we are still training harshly to compete, regardless of programming or configuration,” said PLDT coach Rald Ricafort, to Inquirer before his second PVL final since he won the reinforced conference in 2022 with his old Petro Gazz
CHERY TIGGO, who amazed for the semi-finals to make his return to the PVL final, who amazed for a direct semi-finals to make his return to the PVL final in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
“I know our players, I know their character. I know how much they want to win. I feel hunger and the grain,” said Chery Tiggo coach Norman Miguel.
“It’s been a while. They want to feel the feeling of being a champion. We will work doubly at each stage of victory,” he added.
Miguel admitted that he felt a mixture of excitement and pressure in his first championship match since he helped the National University to govern the women’s volleyball tournament for season 86 of the UAAP last year.
He did not expect them to reach so far because they took a match at a time.
But now that they are here, Miguel is convinced that the Culture “ No Superstar ” by Chery Tiggo will be fully exposed when Ara Galang, Cess Robles, Jasmine Nabor, Renee Peñafiel, Imee Hernandez, Aby Maraño and Karen Verdeflor are trying to bring the glory back to their franchise after four years.
Ricafort will continue to put himself on his healthy and complete list, banished by Savi Davison, who is fresh from a 34-point semi-final explosion, Majoy Baron, Mika Reyes, Kianna Dy, Kim Fajardo, Jovy Prado and Kath Arado.
“We will always take it a point and a set at a time. We will continue to work hard until we reach our goal,” said Ricafort.
At 4 p.m., the eyes of Creamline Creamline Title Creamline to put an end to his pre-season with a bronze medal against Cignal. Inq
