Since his official appointment as a chief coach of Gilas Pilipinas, Tim Cree has clearly indicated that the national team strictly adheres to a long-term program that will lead to the FIBA 2027 World Cup and the Los Angeles Olympic Games the following year.
This is why the veteran tactician is categorical on the maintenance of his basin of talented players even after their elimination in the quarter -finals of the Asia Cup of the FIBA 2025.
It was, of course, before Quinton Millora-Brown became eligible on Friday.
“Nothing official, but we are certainly delighted to put it in the programming if it becomes official,” replied in an SMS to the question of inquirer on the reports according to which Millora-Brown won his call with the govering FIBA and is now classified as a local.
In the middle of the clamor on social media to make changes to the programming of Gilas after its loss for Australia in the continental competition in Djeddah two days ago, CONE reiterated that with the way in which the team is structured, the change is fairly eccentric.
“If we are just going to go ahead and change staff, then we will all return to zero,” said Cone after a defeat of 84-60 against boomers on Wednesday evening. “We have assembled this long -term team, trying to make them grow and improve.”
Most of his mandate with Gilas, Cone remained faithful to his words. And he managed to support this, counting the gold medal of Asian games which broke a 61 -year -old drought for the country.
All the names of the last 12 that the Philippines brought to the February window of the Asian 2025 Cup qualifications were in Saudi Arabia.
Addes have been made from time to time at the Philippine swimming pool, mainly because CONE was forced to do so due to the injuries of the players.
Cone had tinkered with the idea of taking RJ Abarrientos, Troy Rosario, Zavier Lucero and Rhenz abandonment in Saudi Arabia, to stick to his original 12 for the Asian Cup.
Abarrientos and Rosario even played a development match before the team’s departure.
Whether the same four are considered or not for the next assignment of the Philippines, the only thing that Cone hoped more that everything was the return of Kai Sotto.
Sotto is recovering from LCA surgery and has no final calendar for a return.
Enter Millora-Brown, a 6-feet 10-inch murderer who can certainly help AJ Edu and June Mar Fajardo with central tasks and give the Philippines a strong triumvirate on the slit.
Millora-Brown only played one season with the University of the Philippines and helped the chestnuts to fight in the UAAP title in the room. He adapted to Macao Black Bears in a friendly match against the Nationals and showed his value as an international player.
And with the first window of Asian qualifications of the 2027 World Cup to play in February, CONE can have more than enough great men after Sotto Returns and Edu and Fajardo also there.
But for the moment, until everything is official on the side of Millora-Brown, Cone will continue to stick to its grainy group.
“At this point, it is really too early to watch and say:” Well, that’s what we need at this stage. “”
