The shallow earthquake damaged the buildings and injured several people in the Russian Russian region, while a large part of the East Coast of Japan – devastated by an earthquake and a tsunami of 9.0 in 2011 – was ordered to evacuate, just like some parts of Hawaii.
In the evening, Japan, Hawaii and Russia had demoted most of their tsunami warnings. But the authorities in French Polynesia have warned residents of several of the distant brand islands to move to higher grounds and expect waves of up to 2.5 meters (8 feet).
Russian scientists said the Kamchatka earthquake was the most powerful for hitting the region since 1952.
“He had the impression that the walls could collapse at any time. The tremors lasted continuously for at least three minutes,” said Yaroslav, 25, in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that there had been no victim in Russia from the earthquake, crediting the solid construction of the building and the fluid operation of the alert systems.
In Severo-Kurilsk, in the northern islands of Kuril, south of Kamchatka, the waves of Tsunami exceeded 3 meters, with the largest up to 5 meters, reported the Ria news agency in Russia.
Alexander Ovsyannikov, the mayor of the city, urged residents to assess damage to their homes and not to use gas stove heating until the inspections were carried out.
Tsunami waves partially flooded the port and a fish processing plant in the city, sweetening ships of their moorings, regional officials and the Ministry of Emergency of Russia.
Images of verified drones have shown that the whole shore of the city was overwhelmed, with larger buildings and storage facilities surrounded by water.
The Klyuchevskoy volcano on the Russian Kamchatka peninsula began to break out later, said a geological surveillance service.
“A burning hot lava descent is observed on the Western slope. A powerful shine above the volcano, explosions,” said the United Geophysical Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences in a press release published on Telegram.
Waves in Hawaii, Japan
Hawaii recorded waves up to 1.7 meters while in Japan, the largest recorded came to 1.3 meters, officials said.
The flights outside the Honolulu airport resumed in the evening, said the transport service.
Waves of almost half a meter have been observed as far as California, the smallest reaching the Canadian province of British Columbia.
In French Polynesia, the waves began to strike islands early Wednesday morning. In other parts, the heights of waves had to remain less than 30 cm, without requiring evacuation or refuge.
“Our armed forces in French Polynesia are under alert as a precautionary measure, to be ready to help our colleagues citizens and state services in potential research and rescue or medical evacuation operations,” said French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu, on the social media platform.
While brands are volcanic islands at the height, a large part of French Polynesia consists of low atolls.
Warnings through the Pacific
Tsunami alarms sound in the coastal cities of the Japanese Pacific coast and evacuation orders were issued for tens of thousands of people.
The workers have evacuated the Fukushima’s struck nuclear power plant, where a collapse after the 2011 tsunami caused a radioactive disaster, said operator Tepco.
The chief secretary of the cabinet, Yoshimasa Hayashi, said that no injury or damage had been reported and that there was no irregularity in any nuclear power plant.

‘Ring of Fire’
The earthquake has occurred on what is called a “megathrust flaw” where the Pacific dense plate slides under the lighter North American plate, according to scientists.
The Pacific plaque was in motion, making the region of the Kamchatka peninsula off the coast of the extreme-east of Russia, particularly vulnerable to such tremors-and the greater replicas could not be excluded, they said.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Services said on Telegram that a kindergarten had been damaged, but most buildings resisted the earthquake.
Video sequences from the region’s Ministry of Health have shown a team of doctors in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky producing an operation by prolving while the earthquake was shaking their operating theater.
“However, due to certain characteristics of the epicenter, the intensity of the tremors was not as high … as we could expect from such a magnitude,” said Danila Chebrov, director of the Kamchatka branch of the geophysical service, on Telegram.
“The aftershocks are currently underway … their intensity will remain quite high. However, stronger tremors are not expected in the near future. ”
