The 2025 university football season is crucial for Auburn Hugh Freeze coach. Since his arrival in 2023, Freeze has not yet met the high expectations of the program. Upon entering the coming season, he finds himself on the hot seat while fans anticipate a turnaround.
However, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum does not believe that Freeze’s work is in danger, despite his 11-14 (5-11 seconds) record in Auburn. When asked on Paul Finebaum’s program if the UNLV head coach Dan Mullen could possibly replace Freeze, Finebaum rejected the concept.
“I don’t think Hugh Freeze is really in this terrible form,” said Finebaum (by Athlon Sports). “He is very appreciated by the people of Auburn. He has support where it really matters.”

“It is quite disappointing and I think that many errors have been made, but Auburn went there and brought him a lot of very good players. Many people believe that Auburn will rebound.”
However, given that his predecessor, Bryan Harsin, was dismissed in his second season after having published a 9-12 record, another losing campaign could put freeze work in serious danger. Despite the pretension of Finebaum according to which Freeze is well supported, expectations remain high.
Auburn has made a significant investment in its program this offseason to help freeze things. The Tigers brought key players from the transfer portal and assembled a recruitment class among the first 10 for 2025.
Hugh freeze meets crucial health challenges before the 2025 season
In February, Auburn announced that Hugh Freeze received a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Although this could have been a major setback for the coach and the program, the doctors detected the disease in his early days, allowing him to continue his functions as a coach.
“Recently, Coach Freeze has been diagnosed with an early form of prostate cancer,” said the school statement. “Fortunately, he was detected early and his doctors advised that he is very treatable and curable.
“He will continue his normal coaching tasks and responsibilities, and with an appropriate treatment to come, should recover completely.”
Despite its health problems, Freeze remains focused on the more competitive rendering of Auburn in 2025. The addition of the quarter Jackson Arnold, wide receptors Eric Singleton Jr. and Horatio Fields, and several other key players should help improve the team record.
