On Wednesday, the supreme chief of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rejected negotiations with the United States on Wednesday for a nuclear agreement, because a letter was delivered from the American president Donald Trump calling for such discussions.
Last week, Trump said that he had sent the letter to Khamenei offering nuclear talks, but also warned that “there were two ways that Iran can be managed: militarily, or you conclude an agreement”.
The letter was given to the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Wednesday by Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates.
While Araqchi and Gargash met, Khamenei told a group of university students that Trump’s offer for talks was “deception,” said the media.
“When we know that they will not honor it, what is the point of negotiating?” Consequently, the invitation to negotiate … is a deception of public opinion, “said Khamenei, quoted by the state media. Khamenei said he had not yet seen the letter.
Khamenei said that negotiation with the Trump administration, which he said had excessive requests, “will tighten the node of sanctions and increase pressure on Iran”.
In 2018, Trump withdrew the United States from the Tehran Nuclear Agreement with the world powers and reimed the sanctions that paralyzed the Iranian economy. Tehran reacted a year later by violating the nuclear borders of the agreement.
Khamenei, who has the last word in Iranian affairs, said last week that Tehran would not be the victim of intimidation in talks under threats.
While leaving the door open for a nuclear pact with Tehran, Trump restored the “maximum pressure” campaign he applied during his first mandate to isolate Iran from the world economy and lead its oil exports to zero.
The United Arab Emirates, one of the main security partners of the Middle East of Washington and welcome American troops, also maintains warm links with Tehran. Despite past tensions, the commercial and commercial links between the two countries have remained strong and Dubai has been a key shopping center of Iran for over a century.
Military threats
Iran has long denied wanting to develop a nuclear weapon.
“If we wanted to build nuclear weapons, the United States could not stop it. We don’t want it ourselves, ”said Khamenei.
However, the Iranian Uranium stock enriched at up to 60% purity, almost the level of approximately 90% of arms quality, Jumped, said the International Atomic Energy Agency at the end of last month.
The Arch-en-Arc Israel threatened to attack the Iranian nuclear sites if diplomacy did not contain the nuclear ambitions of Tehran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month after meeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Israel and the United States were determined to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions and his influence in the Middle East.
Khamenei warned on Wednesday against any military strike on Iran.
“Iran is not looking for war, but if the Americans or their agents are making a bad step, our response will be decisive and certain, and the one that will suffer the most harm is America,” he said.
While Tehran has promised to retaliate against any military assault, some Western diplomats argue that the country would be confronted with significant challenges.
Last year, Israel struck Iranian installations, including missile and air defense factories in retaliation for Iranian missiles and drone attacks.
This has reduced the conventional military capacities of Tehran, according to analysts and US officials, an assessment disputed by Tehran.
