Beijing: Friday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed firm opposition to the American threat to impose an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from China from March 4, and promised to take “necessary countermeasures” to protect the legitimate rights and interests of China.
“China has repeatedly stressed that unilateral prices violate the rules of the World Trade Organization and damage the multilateral trading system. China firmly opposes the American decision, “said a spokesperson for the Chinese trade ministry.
The United States has cited the so-called fentanyl problem as an excuse for the last price threat.
China has some of the strictest and most rigorously applied anti-drug policies in the world and actively engages in international anti-drug cooperation with countries around the world, including the United States, the spokesperson said.
However, the United States has constantly ignored the objective facts, added the spokesperson, noting that it required a 10% rate on goods imported from China quoting fentanyl and other reasons, and now it threatens to impose additional prices.
China hopes that the United States will not continue on the wrong path and will quickly return to the right way for resolving differences by equal dialogue, said the spokesperson.
If the United States persists in its actions, China will take all the countermeasures necessary to defend its legitimate rights, added the spokesperson.
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also denounced these Washington actions.
China has said on several occasions that there was no winner in a trade war or a tariff war, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on a regular drop in press, adding that US unilateral tariff hikes seriously violated the rules of the World Trade Organization and the interests of the two countries and around the world.
