Manila, Philippines – Even if Gilas Pilipinas lost his last match during the qualifying for the FIBA Asia CUP 2025, the Philippine team still feels like having won with the amount of support they received.
Sunday, Gilas lost against New Zealand, 87-70, on the original ground of the Kiwis before a crowd of division which essentially controlled whatever the advantage of the court at home they thought had.

Chris Newsome was not surprised at all by the quantity of Philippins who showed up and stayed to watch Gilas despite the game.

“My coach of my club team Nenad (Vucinic) told me a lot about New Zealand and people from here and to be able to see this in the first hand, he is really right,” said Meralco’s star.
“What you saw in the crowd tonight was a Philippin base food.”

Motivated by many OFW present, Newsome directed the Philippines with a 13 -point summit built on an effective shooting clip of 50%.
However, that was not enough because the big blacks had much more firepower led by Tohi Smith-Milner.
