Before settling in royal life, Prince William and Kate Middleton have already experienced wild holidays at the famous Ibiza Villa of Uncle Gary Goldsmith, Bang Bang’s house. The 2006 trip, which included Pippa Middleton, James Middleton, Prince Harry and close friends, saw the royal couple party, the djing and lounging on a yacht.
Goldsmith, a self -proclaimed party lover, had just bought the villa of 3.6 million pounds sterling, which quickly acquired a reputation for its extravagant rallies. He would have chartered a yacht for William and Kate, taking them to the neighboring island of Formentera. The Royal Biographer Katie Nicholl wrote that the couple had a “ball” with the luxurious villa, appreciating the beach bars and the evenings at the Pasha’s nightclub of Ibiza.
William, then 24, would have dropped during the trip, with an incident forcing Kate to reprimand him for an imprudent moped outside the villa. Goldsmith later boasted of visiting a tabloid bite, revealing details on their activities, including William’s attempt at DJ. He said William even found a signature sentence: “The king is in the house!”
The private holidays remained largely under the envelopes until 2009, when Goldsmith was taken in a scandal involving drugs and incriminating remarks on the Royals. After the exhibition, William and Kate decided that they could never return to the villa. Despite his controversies, Goldsmith remained close to the middletons and attended the weddings of Kate and Pippa.
Now firmly established as the future king and queen, William and Kate have left their holidays. But their Ibiza getaway remains a reminder of a time when they could enjoy freedom of youth – before Royal Duty has priority.
