Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke on Monday during a telephone call, said Modi in an article on X, the first conversation between the two leaders since Trump’s inauguration last week.
“We are engaging in a mutually beneficial and confidence partnership,” said Modi in the position, adding that he also congratulated his “dear friend” for his second historic mandate in office. “We will work together for the well-being of our people and to peace, world prosperity and security,” he added.
The United States is the largest trading partner in India and two-way trade between the two countries exceeded $ 118 billion in 2023/24, India showing a trade surplus of $ 32 billion.
Indian and American diplomats try to organize a meeting of the two leaders in February, Reuters reported last week.
India, a strategic partner in the United States in its efforts to counter China, is to improve trade relations with the United States and to facilitate the obtaining of qualified workers’ visas.
