MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel secured a much-needed 116-113 triumph over budding rival Converge Friday night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Import Malik Pope matched Tiongson with 22 points to go with 14 rebounds. June Mar Fajardo tallied 19 and 14 while Don Trollano added 17 more in the effort that also featured double-digit contributions from CJ Perez and Marcio Lassiter.

Import Cheick Diallo had 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Jordan’s lead of 25 and seven increased with five assists and two steals. Alec Stockton pitched in 19 points and 10 assists while Justine Baltazar chipped in 13 points and 12 boards as cornerstone junior Justin Arana continued to rest his hyperextend knee.

San Miguel’s victory denied the conference’s then-converging solo No. 2 and sent the young Telecom club all No. 5 (8-4 wins) in the import conference race that begins in become more cloudy by the day.
The triumph also snuffed out Blackwater’s chances of advancing.
The Beermen still have one more match in the elimination, which is still coming out of TNT in January – but they don’t have any luck out of the woods yet with sister team Magnolia and Nlex still in the running for the last two places in the quarter-finals.
The Hotshots and Road Warriors both have two matches.
