Novak Djokovic made honest remarks about the potential of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to break his records. Alcaraz, who currently sits at No. 3 in the ATP rankings, and Sinner, who sits at No. 1, have generated a lot of buzz in the tennis world recently.

Djokovic etched his name in tennis history with an impressive 24 Grand Slam titles, including 10 Australian Opens, three French Opens, seven Wimbledons and four US Opens, making him the world’s leading men’s tennis player the most successful of all time. During the 2024 season, he added the final piece to his legacy by winning his long-awaited Olympic gold medal in Paris.

Djokovic has always welcomed the new generation of players with open arms, including Grigor Dimitrov, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem. And of course, he continues to support the rise of Alcaraz and Sinner.

In an interview with GQ Sports On Thursday (January 9), the Serbian tennis star casually remarked that while his records may seem unbreakable to some, he believes Alcaraz and Sinner could be the ones to take his place in the future.

“It’s too early. But you know, people say my records will never be broken. I doubt it. I mean, Carlos could already be the next guy. Even Jannik,” Djokovic said.

He also emphasized that if Sinner and Alcaraz prioritized their fitness and took care of their bodies, they could achieve long-term success.

“If they take care of their body, if they do things right, if they focus on longevity, on the long term, then they can do it,” he added.

At just 21 years old, the Spaniard has already won four Grand Slam titles: two at Wimbledon, one at the US Open and one at Roland Garros. Reflecting on this remarkable achievement, Djokovic remarked:

“Carlos has done something that no one has done in history at such a young age. So the chances are with him. He will finish his Slam (career) very soon.

Novak Djokovic will begin his campaign against Nishesh Basavareddy at the Australian Open on Sunday, January 12. The duo have never met before on the ATP Tour, so it will be an interesting matchup.

If Djokovic wins, he will then meet Pavel Kotov in the second round, followed by a possible third round meeting with Reilly Opelka or Tomas Machac. Grigor Dimitrov or Jiri Lehecka will be waiting for him in the fourth round.

If the Serbian advances to the quarter-finals, he could face his toughest test yet in a highly anticipated showdown with Carlos Alcaraz. Alternatively, he could face 2024 US Open semi-finalist Sebastian Korda or Jack Draper.

In the semi-final, the 24-time Grand Slam champion could face formidable opponents like Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud or Tommy Paul. If he reaches the final, he could face world number 1 Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz or Alex de Minaur.
