In a major move to simplify travel for expats, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a new multiple-entry visit visa allowing foreign nationals to visit relatives and friends without the need for a sponsor or a local guarantor.
The initiative offers flexible stay options of 30, 60 or 90 days and is expected to greatly benefit communities like Pakistanis, who often face barriers in obtaining visas to the UAE for family and personal visits.
Who can apply?
The visa is open to people visiting close relatives, including parents, children, siblings or spouses. Applicants must submit proof of the relationship, such as a marriage or birth certificate.
Friends are also eligible, but must provide valid reasons for their visit, such as attending key events or spending time with close associates.
Application process
Applicants can apply through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) website, mobile application or service centers in the UAE. Required documents include:
- A valid passport (minimum validity of six months).
- Two recent passport-sized photographs.
- Supporting financial documentation.
- Proof of employment or business-related (e.g. salary certificate, partnership agreement or business license).
Visa Fees and Charges
Visa fees are structured as follows:
- 30 day visa: 300 AED (22,755 Rs).
- 60 day visa: 500 AED (37,925 Rs).
- 90 day visa: 700 AED (53,095 Rs).
A refundable deposit of AED 2,000 (Rs 151,700) is required as financial security, along with a minor administrative fee. Applicants must also purchase medical insurance, which costs between AED 40 and 90 (Rs 3,034 to Rs 6,825) depending on the duration of the visa.
Simplify family reunions
The development marks a step forward in improving the accessibility of the UAE for expats seeking to reconnect with loved ones. It eliminates the complexities of local sponsorship and is particularly important for Pakistani nationals, as it facilitates family reunions and personal visits.
