GAZA: At least 88 more Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military attacks in the Gaza Strip, bringing the total death toll since October 2023 to 45,805, the besieged enclave’s Health Ministry said on Sunday.

A ministry statement added that some 109,064 other people were injured in the ongoing assault.

Another baby has died of hypothermia in Gaza – the eighth such death in the context of the Israeli genocide in the enclave, according to media reports.

The ministry’s statement said: “Israeli forces killed 88 people and injured 208 others in five massacres of families over the past 24 hours. »

“Many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads because rescuers are unable to reach them. »

Gaza Civil Defense, an emergency services agency, said its teams responded to several airstrikes on family homes on Sunday, in which several people were killed and injured.

Israel has continued its deadly war against the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The second year of the genocide in Gaza is drawing growing international condemnation, with officials and institutions calling the attacks and blocking of aid deliveries a deliberate attempt to destroy a population.

Meanwhile, pressure has increased on both sides to reach a ceasefire agreement that would include the release of hostages held in Gaza before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20.

On Friday evening, Hamas announced that its officials would resume meetings in Doha, the Qatari capital, to reach a ceasefire agreement.

And Israel announced last week that it would also send a delegation of mid-level security officials to meet with mediators in Qatar. Many previous rounds of negotiations have failed due to differences in the two sides’ demands. And as hope revives for a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, Palestinians and human rights organizations say the humanitarian situation in Gaza is becoming even more desperate.

In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case before the International Court of Justice over its deadly war on Gaza.
