MANILA, Philippines — Rain or shine, brought the pressure on in the final quarter Tuesday night to dismantle old tormentor San Miguel, 107-93, in the PBA Commissioners Cup.
The Elastopainters weathered the absence of several stalwarts to beat the retooled Filoil EcoOil Center in San Juan and improve to 2-1 in the import-heavy conference.

“I’m really happy with our efforts. And talagang dalawang malalaking is an oriental SME and SME. We hope to close our December with another victory,” said Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao while hinting at his charges’ next mission against Magnolia on Wednesday next week.
Adrian Nocum starred for Rain or Shine with 15 points, five assists and four steals, holding his own against a Beermen backcourt filled with top-tier talent.
“I’m just starting with defense, so everyone is in front of me. Either way, it’s a good result,” said the former Mapua playmaker.

Import Deon Thompson had 18 points to lead all Elastopainters. Caelan Tiongson, Felix Lemetti, Keith Datu and Jhonard Clarito added double-digit scores to lead Nocum’s charge against the home side, who were missing Gian Mamuyac (fractured right hand) and Luis Villegas (reconstruction surgery).
Rain or Shine scored 37 points in the final quarter to put San Miguel firmly in the backseat and with a precarious 1-2 map to start conference play.
The Beermen, who are expected to field a new import in Torren Jones, play against listless Terrafirma next Friday.
