Musk donates more than $250 million to support Trump’s presidential campaign
WASHINGTON: Elon Musk spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars supporting Donald Trump’s presidential bid, according to recent documents, underscoring the billionaire entrepreneur’s significant influence on this year’s White House race.
Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has contributed $259 million to various groups supporting Trump’s campaign, based on recently released documents from the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
This massive financial commitment positions Musk as one of the largest donors in US presidential campaign history, cementing his role as a powerful political ally of Trump. His support allowed him to play a central role in the development of the future political program of the Republican administration.
The lion’s share of Musk’s donation, $239 million, went to America PAC, a super PAC he created to boost voter turnout for Trump.
Additionally, in late October, Musk contributed $20 million to the RBG PAC, a group whose goal is to assure voters that Trump would oppose a national abortion ban. The PAC, named after the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a staunch defender of abortion rights, used its funds to influence voters’ top concerns.
Musk, who also owns social media platform X, has become a close adviser to Trump’s transition team. He was chosen, alongside former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, to lead a task force aimed at cutting public spending and easing regulations.
On Capitol Hill on Thursday, Musk and Ramaswamy met with lawmakers critical to securing the sweeping budget cuts requested by Trump. Both men called for massive federal workforce reductions, a rollback of regulations and the elimination of programs, such as veterans’ health care, that no longer have active authorizations.
